Nikos is the son of Walt and Zora Crane, and cousin to Niles and Frasier Crane. He initially pursued a career in medicine, but was advised to drop out of medical school by Frasier, whose judgment he trusts and values. He then became a street juggler, much to his mother's displeasure. He becomes engaged to Mary Anne, daughter of wealthy Seattle socialites. However, he later leaves her for Crystal, a fellow juggler and former performing partner who he says is his true love.
