Frederick Crane is a recurring character on Frasier and a main character on the Frasier sequel. He is portrayed by Trevor Einhorn in the original series, and Jack Cutmore-Scott in the sequel series.

Character[]

Frederick is the son of Frasier Crane and Lilith Sternin, born in 1989[1]. He is Jewish by his mother. Frederick is first portrayed as having many allergies, and not very physically inclined nor caring for sports like his father and uncle, but possessed many academic skills greater than most his age. He has the same gift for spelling as his uncle, Niles; and he wins the National Spelling Bee but is falsely accused of cheating. He is accepted into the Marbury Academy, on the agreement neither of his parents will show up for any events.

As he grew older, Frederick continues to live in Boston but deviated from his parent's and uncle's way of life and began taking more after his grandfather, Martin. These included a love for sports (particularly baseball, football and bowling), becoming active and fit, began serving the public as a firefighter, and a love for beer than wine. Despite no longer caring for higher culture and academia when he was younger, Frederick is still highly intelligent and academically gifted, though he only really shows this side when he becomes drunk, a side effect of which also reveals him to be talented at close up magic (something his colleagues hate).

Story[]

Original Series[]

He was called "Freddy" when he was a younger child. His first word was "Norm" when Norm Peterson walked into Cheers like the other bar-goers usually shouted.

Frederick develops a crush on Daphne, much to the distaste of Niles, though he outgrows it.

Frederick grows apart from his father as he becomes older, becoming "goth" in his attempt to win over his crush, Molly, who was Goth.

In the original series' final episode, he isn't seen but is mentioned in a phone conversation between Frasier and Lilith asking how his relationship with one girl went, as he referred to be dating by this time. It's discovered that he's ended one relationship with the one girl and has moved onto another relationship, this time, with an "older one" from his high school.

2023 Series[]

Freddy works as a Boston firefighter. He had previously dropped out of Harvard, a decision that caused tension between him and his father. Freddy's relationship with Frasier has been strained, partly due to Freddy's academic choices, his absence from his grandfather Martin's funeral, and due to Frasier not being there as often as he'd liked as he was growing up.

Freddy shares an apartment with Eve, whom Frasier initially assumes to be his girlfriend, along with assuming her baby was Freddy's, until it's later revealed that she was the girlfriend of a deceased firefighter, and Freddy has been supporting her and her baby due to his guilt over his colleague's death. Their relationship is platonic, but Freddy cares deeply for Eve and her well-being and vice versa, despite both having habits that get on each other's nerves. Frasier offers for Freddy to move in with him after he accepts a job in town and Freddy begrudgingly agrees, however due to the fact that they no longer have the same taste they clash.

Freddy attends a firehouse trivia night with Frasier, Olivia, and Alan. Misinterpreting Frasier's comments as a slight against his profession, Freddy invites Frasier to spend a day at the firehouse, hoping to enlighten him about his job. However, the plan backfires when Frasier unexpectedly gets along with the other firefighters, revealing his fear of losing Freddy, a fear rooted in childhood experiences of losing his father.

Later on, Freddy becomes a central figure in the Founders' Society saga. As part of an alliance with Frasier and Alan, he faces comedic challenges, such as Alan getting a gauntlet stuck on his hand. Despite the amusing misadventures, Freddy witnesses Olivia striking out on her own and eventually finds out that she, along with Frasier, has been accepted into the prestigious society. In the end, Alan expresses the value he places on their friendship.

Eve, in her role as a matchmaker, sets up blind dates for Freddy and Frasier. The situation takes a humorous turn when a woman named June arrives, connecting with both Freddy and Frasier. However, confusion ensues when the intended date for Freddy becomes interested in Frasier instead, leading to the departure of both women in disgust.

The anticipated reunion between Frasier and his ex-wife Lilith raises Freddy's anxiety. To avoid being cut out of Freddy's life, Lilith and Frasier agree to attend Freddy's birthday party, attempting to keep things civil. The party becomes chaotic, with Lilith and Frasier engaging in a heated argument over who knows Freddy better.

Freddy reveals an unexpected facet of his personality when drunk, shedding his working-class affectations for hyper-intelligent, erudite snobbery. Meanwhile, his attempt to be treated as an adult by helping with apartment repairs takes a complicated turn.

On Christmas Eve, Freddy stretches himself to be there for both Frasier, coping with Martin's death, and Eve, who is dealing with her own loss, by throwing a lavish party.

Trivia[]

  • Chronologically, his last appearance is in a future sequence in an episode of Cheers, played by Rob Nuekirch, where he is reading Frasier's will.
  • He is played by Luke Tarsitano in the third season of Frasier, and by Trevor Einhorn in the remaining seasons, then he is set to play by Jack Cutmore-Scott in the sequel series.
  • At his bar mitzvah, Frasier attempts to give his blessing in Hebrew, but instead gives the blessing in Klingon.
  • Frederick Crane celebrates his birthday in "Freddy's Birthday".
  • Frasier and Freddy has the same relationship like Frasier and Martin relationship and why they are estranged in the beginning.
  • Frasier has not spoken to his son, since he dropped out of Harvard because he could not live up to his father, his mother and his uncle Niles.
  • Freddy inherited his public service gene like being a fireman like his grandfather Martin Crane. During his youth, Freddy took after his father, mother and uncle in terms of habit and likes but by the time he had become a young adult, Freddy became more like his grandfather Martin.
  • Though he dropped out of Harvard and has shown to be more at ease with his coworkers in the same manner that his grandfather was, Freddy is still highly intelligent. He generally only shows this when he is drunk due to the fact his inhibitions are lowered, but he did start to help his cousin David with a paper the younger Crane had due about Proust while sober as well.
