  • John Lithgow, who provides a voice cameo for this episode as Madman Martinez who pretends to be depressed, as a means of plugging his car dealership, was the producers' first choice to play Frasier Crane when the character debuted in Cheers. However, Lithgow declined the role because of a time conflict, leading to Kelsey Grammer getting the role instead.
  • The title is from the song "Someone to Watch Over Me" composed by George Gershwin with lyrics by Ira Gershwin from the musical Oh, Kay! (1926).
  • Including Roz and Kari (Renée Lippin), there are at least six women at the awards dinner wearing red dresses.
