T. H. Houghton
Theodore H. "Ted" Houghton, or more commonly known as T.H. Houghton, is a fictional character on Frasier. He appears in only one episode, "A Crane's Critique". Houghton is a legendary author, well known for his only book Time Flies Tomorrow. However, after his book was published he became a notable recluse, hardly ever going out into public. He appears on Frasier when he is visiting Seattle to publish a new book, The Chameleon's Song. Here he befriends Martin, much to the dismay of Frasier and Niles. The Crane brothers attempt to impress Houghton, but often fail to do so. They read his manuscript for his second novel when he leaves it at Frasier's apartment by accident. However, he thanks the boys for reading it, and asks their opinion. When they tell him they found parts similar to Dante's The Divine Comedy, he becomes upset and attempts to burn his manuscript. When it won't burn he throws it out into the gutter. He is played by Robert Prosky, who was considered for the role of Martin Crane in the early stages of the show.
Hougton is an 'in-universe' version of author and near-legendary recluse J.D. Salinger.
